Productivity Tip: Created a Dedicated Workspace
Content Toggle Headline
Hi, Don Downs from RV Business Coach here. Today I'm going to share a tip on working from home. And that tip is: As much as possible, set up a dedicated workspace.
Why? Because it really helps when you can send a signal to your mind, your body, and everyone around you that you're at work.
Sometimes it's great to sit on the couch by the fireplace, or sit on the porch and work on your laptop. And that's fine. But inevitably you'll have those times when you really don't feel like doing work. And in those times, if you set up on the couch, you're likely to end up watching Netflix or surfing social media. And if you set up on the porch, you'll like end up watching the birds and squirrels. Either way, your environment is providing distractions rather than helping you get work done.
If you're not really in the mood to work, though, it can really help to have a dedicate office space. It doesn't have to be a huge space: you just need space to setup your workstation. Maybe that's just a laptop. Or maybe you'll add an external monitor or tow, keyboard, and mouse. Whatever you need to work is fine.
But try to carve out a space that is just yours, and is where you work.
Now, when you enter that space, remind yourself, "I'm at work." Then sit down and start doing work related tasks.
In a future video, we'll talk about how to set up that space to be more efficient. Things like making sure the supplies you need are in arms reach, and that the area is free from distractions. Or at least as free as possible.
For now though, we're most interested in establishing boundaries. Create a space that says "I'm at work now." And let yourself and your family know that when you're in that space, you're at work.
Oh, and keep that commitment. When you're in your workspace, work. And allow yourself to leave the workspace, and leave work behind.
That's it for today. Did you find this useful? Do you have additional suggestions? Please leave your comments below!
All right, here's to a productive day!
