How to Get to the Top

How to Get to the Top

A Simple Strategy for Achieving Any Goal — Including Getting Your Technology to Work for You
Several years ago while we were vacationing in the Great Smoky Mountains, my family decided to hike the Chimney Tops trail. It’s a rather challenging trail, covering about 3.8 miles with a total elevation change of almost 1500 feet.
Our younger son wasn’t walking well yet, so he rode in a “hikapoose” (basically a backpack that he could ride in). Perhaps carrying my son on my back made me look like an expert hiker; all along the trail people would stop me and ask, “Do you think I can make it to the top?”

I answered each one the same way: “Of course you can! Just keep putting one foot in front of the other.” Each time I said that, the other person would smile and continue up the trail. And you know what? I saw every single one of those people at the top. And most of them got there before we did!

I now tell entrepreneurs the same thing, especially when they are confronting technology challenges. Taking one step at a time is crucial when you’re solving your business’s technology needs.

I’ve worked with countless entrepreneurs who are bogged down by technology. Often the problem is that they are trying to do too much at once.

Yes, technology can certainly help you grow your business, save you time, save you money, and even help you reduce clutter.

But it can also weigh you down, distract you, and cause you to waste money. And how many of us have a “technology clutter collection” of tools we’ve bought that we intend to use someday, or that we tried, didn’t figure out right away, and discarded? (My hand is up. Is yours?)

The key to successful implementation of technology is to apply it one step at a time. Start with what you need. Then add to it as you grow.

But what if you don’t know where to start? Well, I have some exciting things in the works to help you with that process. Watch your Inbox for more details!

Is technology saving you time or getting in your way? Please leave a comment on my blog and let me know.
